Nursing graduates honored at pinning ceremony

The University of Tulsa School of Nursing recently recognized high-achieving students at its annual Recognition and Award Ceremony.

Rebekah Neph was honored as the 2018 Outstanding Student of the Year.

“I am very proud of our 2018 nursing graduates. Each member of this class possesses the character and the knowledge to make a difference in the nursing profession,” said Sheryl Stansifer, director of the TU School of Nursing.

Rebekah Neph was honored as the 2018 Outstanding Student of the Year. The award winner is selected by the faculty and given to a student for displaying high-quality academics, excellence in clinical nursing, leadership and service. Madison Studebaker earned the honor for the highest grade point average.

The event also honored students named to Sigma Theta Tau International, an honor society committed to fostering excellence, scholarship and leadership in nursing.

Membership is awarded to baccalaureate nursing candidates who have completed half of the nursing curriculum, have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and who are in the upper 35 percent of their class. Those in the graduating class who were inducted include (some were inducted last year):

Sigma Theta Tau, founded in 1922, has an active membership of more than 135,000 in 90 countries.

Madison Studebaker earned the honor for the highest grade point average.

Additionally, students graduating with their bachelor of science in nursing received a nursing pin recognizing their achievement. The ceremony was quite special as each student was pinned by a parent, friend or mentor.  Those students include:

The ceremony concluded with by students, faculty and nurses in the audience reciting the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
